English concept for the lower grades at Stella Secondary School

In our Secondary school, English is integrated as a working language in all classes of the lower and upper grades in various subjects according to the CLIL method (= Content and Language Integrated Learning).

Before admission to the 1st grade of secondary school

Ideally, the children from the elementary school bring the Cambridge Certificate “Movers” with them (level A1).

To enable children who have not reached this level in elementary school to catch up with the requirements in secondary school, we offer an English course in the summer semester before the change to our school.

At the admission interview, the level is determined by a Hello Activity with our language assistants and a conversation about support options is offered.

In addition, there is the possibility for the children of the 4th grade of elementary school to improve their language level at a Summer School in the summer before school starts.

The highlight in the 4th grade is a ten- to twelve-day language and cultural trip to Dublin/Ireland. The students will go to local schools and learn there in the morning.

English concept for the upper grades at Stella Secondary School

The subjects Music, Religion and History are taught entirely in English. In addition, there are language projects in different subjects.

From the sixth grade onwards, depending on the possibilities, 1 – 2 more subjects will be taught in English.

In the seventh grade, a two-week student exchange program in America with a Leader in Me school is planned.

An English Week takes place each week before Easter.

Cambridge Certificate

Every two years, the students of our secondary school have the opportunity to obtain the Cambridge Certificate.

They are supported by our language assistants and in the regular English classes.

In the fourth grade (lower grades) and in the eighth grade (upper grades), obtaining the Cambridge Certificate is mandatory.

Completion of the lower grades: Competence level B2.
Completion of the upper grades: Competence level C1.
